Guest Bath with Faux Tile Walls
Sophisticated Guest Bath with Faux Tile Walls and Slate Floor. This complete renovation blends highly durable slate-look floor tiles with a faux tile surround for the tub-shower combo. Custom wood paneling and lighting lend a warm, welcoming lodge feel.
Guest Bathroom Layout & Design Vision
For the guest bathroom, the homeowner requested a sophisticated lodge aesthetic that could handle high-traffic guest use with zero maintenance issues. Roger's team redesigned the small layout to optimize clearance.
We started by stripping the old drywall and framing to the studs, leveling the floor joists, and installing moisture-resistant backing boards to ensure a stable sub-structure for the entire room.
Slate-Look Floor Tile & Underlayment Preparation
To ground the space in natural textures, we selected high-durability slate-look ceramic floor tiles. We laid down a premium uncoupling membrane over the leveled plywood subfloor, protecting the tile grout from shifting or cracking over time.
Each tile was carefully laid with slate-matching dark grout for a seamless finish, creating a highly durable, water-resistant floor that stands up to heavy daily foot traffic.
High-Durability Faux Tile Tub & Shower Surround
The tub-shower area features a low-maintenance faux tile wall panel system. This delivers the premium look of hand-laid tile while completely eliminating grout lines, preventing moisture infiltration and mold.
The framing behind the tub was reinforced with solid blocking to ensure zero flexing or movement of the tub base under weight, and sealed with professional-grade silicone sealant at all seams.
Custom Cedar Paneling & Finishing Details
To achieve the rustic lodge aesthetic, custom vertical cedar wood paneling was installed on the accent walls. Each plank was hand-sanded and treated with a moisture-resistant matte sealant to prevent water absorption and warping.
The framing layout was mapped to align perfectly with the paneling joints, creating clean vertical lines that make the ceiling appear higher.
Fiberglass Shower Pan & Faux Tile Panel Conversion
This shower conversion features a fiberglass shower pan with faux tile shower wall panels as a lower cost alternative to porcelain tile. It is very difficult to tell the difference in appearance.
